Withdrawal Policy

MANUSCRIPT WITHDRAWAL POLICY

Jurnal Ilmu Manajemen dan Pendidikan (JIMPIAN) is committed to maintaining an ethical, transparent, and efficient editorial and peer-review process. Authors are expected to submit manuscripts responsibly and to comply with the journal's submission requirements, publication ethics, and editorial procedures.

Section 01

General Principles

Manuscript withdrawal refers to a formal request by the author or authors to discontinue the editorial process before the manuscript is published. Withdrawal should not be undertaken without a valid reason, particularly after the manuscript has entered peer review or received an editorial decision.

JIMPIAN recognizes that exceptional circumstances may arise that require authors to withdraw their manuscripts. All withdrawal requests will be considered by the Editor in accordance with this policy and the principles of publication ethics.

This policy applies to manuscripts at all stages of submission, peer review, revision, and acceptance. It should be distinguished from article retraction, which concerns articles that have already been published.

Section 02

Withdrawal Before the Review Stage

Authors may request to withdraw a manuscript before it enters the peer-review stage.

To withdraw a manuscript, the corresponding author must submit a formal written request to the Editor through the journal's official communication channel. The request must include the manuscript title, submission identification number, corresponding author's name, and reason for withdrawal.

Note: Withdrawal requests submitted before the review stage will generally be approved without a withdrawal fee or other withdrawal-related sanctions, provided that the manuscript has not been submitted for consideration elsewhere in violation of the journal's publication ethics requirements.

Section 03

Withdrawal During or After the Review Stage

Once a manuscript has entered peer review, authors are expected to participate in the editorial process in good faith and to complete the required revisions and administrative procedures. Withdrawal requests submitted after the review process has commenced will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Valid Reasons for Withdrawal (supported by evidence):

  1. Discovery of a substantial error that compromises the validity or integrity of the manuscript.
  2. Identification of a serious ethical concern affecting the research.
  3. An authorship dispute that cannot be resolved through appropriate consultation.
  4. Other exceptional circumstances that make it unreasonable or inappropriate to continue the editorial process.

Unacceptable Reasons: Dissatisfaction with reviewer comments, a desire to submit to a different journal without a compelling justification, or failure to respond to editorial correspondence do not automatically justify withdrawal.

Authors must not submit the same manuscript to another journal while it remains under consideration by JIMPIAN. If withdrawal is requested, authors must wait for written confirmation from the Editor before submitting the manuscript elsewhere.

Section 04

Withdrawal After Acceptance

A manuscript that has received an acceptance decision remains subject to the journal's editorial and publication procedures until publication is completed.

Authors requesting withdrawal after acceptance must submit a formal written request explaining the circumstances and reasons for their decision. The Editor will assess the request and determine whether withdrawal can be approved.

Authors must not unilaterally discontinue the publication process, submit the accepted manuscript to another journal, or treat the manuscript as withdrawn without written confirmation from JIMPIAN.

If an author fails to complete required revisions, documentation, or publication procedures, the Editor may contact the corresponding author to request clarification and establish an appropriate deadline. If the author does not respond or fails to proceed without a reasonable explanation, the manuscript may be closed or its acceptance may be reconsidered.

Section 05

Withdrawal Procedure

All manuscript withdrawal requests must follow these step-by-step procedures:

  1. Submit a formal request: The corresponding author must contact the Editor through the journal's official communication channel and provide the manuscript title, submission identification number, and reason for withdrawal.
  2. Confirm co-author agreement: The corresponding author must confirm that all co-authors have been informed of and agree to the withdrawal request.
  3. Editorial assessment: The Editor will review the request, consider the manuscript's current status, and determine whether further clarification is necessary.
  4. Written decision: The Editor will communicate the decision to the corresponding author. The manuscript is considered withdrawn only after written confirmation has been issued by the journal.
  5. Record management: The journal will update the manuscript's editorial status and retain relevant correspondence and records in accordance with its editorial procedures.

JIMPIAN may contact the authors' affiliated institutions if credible evidence indicates duplicate submission, research misconduct, fraudulent statements, or other serious violations of publication ethics.

Section 06

Improper Withdrawal and Editorial Sanctions

JIMPIAN expects authors to act in good faith throughout the submission and review process. Repeated or demonstrably improper withdrawal practices may disrupt peer review and waste editorial and reviewer resources.

Where there is evidence of deliberate misconduct, including submitting the same manuscript to multiple journals simultaneously, providing false information about a withdrawal, or repeatedly abandoning the editorial process without reasonable explanation, the Editor may take appropriate action:

  1. Issuing a formal warning to the corresponding author.
  2. Closing the current submission.
  3. Temporarily restricting new submissions from the author or authors involved, where justified by the seriousness of the misconduct.
  4. Notifying the relevant institutional authority when credible evidence warrants such action.

Any sanction must be based on documented evidence, be proportionate to the circumstances, and follow an appropriate opportunity for the authors to respond. Withdrawal alone, particularly when supported by a reasonable explanation, will not automatically result in a blacklist or other punitive action.

Section 07

Withdrawal and Article Retraction

Manuscript withdrawal applies to manuscripts that have not yet been published. Once an article has been published, it forms part of the scholarly record and cannot ordinarily be treated as a withdrawn manuscript.

If serious concerns arise after publication, JIMPIAN will assess the matter under its publication ethics and article retraction procedures. Depending on the nature and severity of the concern, appropriate action may include a correction, an expression of concern, or a formal retraction.

A published article will not be removed or retracted solely because an author requests withdrawal or wishes to publish the work elsewhere.

Section 08

Author Responsibilities

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their manuscripts are submitted exclusively to JIMPIAN while under consideration and for communicating promptly with the Editor regarding any circumstances that may affect the editorial process.

Before submitting a withdrawal request, authors should carefully consider the implications for co-authors, reviewers, and the editorial team. All authors are expected to cooperate with the journal's procedures and to comply with the Editor's written decision.

The corresponding author is responsible for communicating the withdrawal request and its outcome to all co-authors.

Section 09

Final Provisions

JIMPIAN reserves the right to assess withdrawal requests in accordance with this policy, its publication ethics standards, and applicable editorial procedures. Decisions will be made fairly and consistently, taking into account the manuscript's status, the reasons for withdrawal, and any relevant ethical concerns.

This policy should be read together with JIMPIAN's Author Guidelines, Authorship Criteria, Peer Review Policy, Publication Ethics, Plagiarism Policy, and other applicable journal policies.
