Authorship Criteria

Authorship Criteria

Jurnal Ilmu Manajemen dan Pendidikan is committed to ensuring fair, transparent, and accountable authorship practices in scholarly publishing. Authorship recognizes individuals who have made substantial intellectual contributions to the research and manuscript and who accept responsibility for the integrity of the published work. All authors are expected to comply with the journal's authorship criteria and publication ethics policies.

  1. Authorship Eligibility

To qualify as an author of a manuscript submitted to Jurnal Ilmu Manajemen dan Pendidikan, an individual must meet all four of the following criteria:

    • Substantial Contribution: Make a substantial contribution to the conception or design of the research, data collection, data analysis, or interpretation of research findings.
    • Writing and Critical Review: Participate in drafting the manuscript or critically reviewing it for important intellectual content.
    • Final Approval: Review and approve the final version of the manuscript to be submitted or published.
    • Accountability: Agree to be accountable for all aspects of the work and ensure that questions concerning the accuracy, validity, or integrity of any part of the research are appropriately investigated and resolved.

All individuals who meet these four criteria should be recognized as authors. Individuals who do not meet all the criteria should not be listed as authors solely because of their position, seniority, institutional affiliation, or relationship with the research team.

  2. Author Contributions and Responsibilities

All listed authors must have made genuine contributions to the research or manuscript and must be able to explain the nature of their respective contributions.

Authors are collectively responsible for the integrity of the published work. Each author must be able to identify the contributions for which they are individually responsible and have confidence in the integrity of the contributions made by their co-authors.

The journal encourages authors to provide a clear description of each author's contribution during submission. Where applicable, authors may use the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT) to describe contributions such as conceptualization, methodology, data curation, formal analysis, investigation, writing of the original draft, review and editing, supervision, and project administration. The use of CRediT does not replace the requirement that every listed author must satisfy all four authorship criteria.

  3. Corresponding Author

The corresponding author is responsible for managing communication with the editorial team throughout the submission, peer-review, revision, and publication processes.

    The corresponding author must:

    • Ensure that all authors meet the journal's authorship criteria.
    • Obtain agreement from all authors regarding the author list, order of authorship, affiliations, and final manuscript.
    • Ensure that all authors are aware of and approve the manuscript submission.
    • Provide accurate information concerning author contributions and any required declarations.
    • Respond to editorial queries and coordinate revisions with the other authors.
    • Ensure that all co-authors are informed of significant communications and editorial decisions.
    • Remain available to address questions about the article after publication.

The designation of a corresponding author does not exempt other authors from their individual responsibilities for the accuracy and integrity of the published work.

  4. Author Order

The order of authors must be determined collectively by the authors based on their respective contributions to the research and manuscript. The journal does not prescribe a universal ranking system for author order because contribution conventions may differ across research disciplines and collaborative projects.

All authors must agree on the final order before submission. Changes to the author list or author order after submission must be supported by a reasonable explanation and the agreement of all affected authors, including any individual being added or removed. The journal may request written confirmation from all authors before approving such changes.

  5. Non-Author Contributors

Individuals who contribute to the research but do not meet all four authorship criteria should be acknowledged appropriately rather than listed as authors.

Examples of contributions that, on their own, do not qualify an individual for authorship include:

    • Providing general supervision or administrative support.
    • Securing funding or providing institutional resources.
    • Providing technical assistance or routine data collection without substantial intellectual contribution.
    • Performing language editing, proofreading, or formatting.
    • Providing general advice without participating substantially in the research or manuscript preparation.

Where appropriate, such contributions may be recognized in the acknowledgments section. Authors should obtain permission from individuals before identifying them in the acknowledgments.

  6. Unacceptable Authorship Practices

Jurnal Ilmu Manajemen dan Pendidikan does not accept inappropriate authorship practices, including:

    • Guest or honorary authorship: Listing an individual as an author despite their failure to meet the authorship criteria, including solely because of their academic position, seniority, or institutional authority.
    • Gift authorship: Adding an individual as an author as a favor, courtesy, or reciprocal arrangement without a qualifying contribution.
    • Ghost authorship: Omitting an individual who has made a substantial qualifying contribution to the research or manuscript.
    • Misrepresentation of contributions: Claiming contributions that were not made or providing inaccurate information about the roles of individual authors.
    • Unauthorized authorship changes: Adding, removing, or changing the order of authors without the required agreement of the affected authors.

All authors are responsible for ensuring that the submitted author list accurately reflects the contributions made to the research and manuscript.

  7. Use of Artificial Intelligence and Authorship

Artificial intelligence (AI), generative AI systems, large language models (LLMs), and other AI-assisted tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors.

Authorship requires intellectual contribution, approval of the final manuscript, and accountability for the accuracy and integrity of the published work. These responsibilities must be assumed by human authors.

Any use of AI or AI-assisted tools must comply with the journal's AI Use Policy. Authors must disclose AI use as required by that policy and remain fully responsible for all material produced or modified with AI assistance.

  8. Authorship Changes and Disputes

Any request to add or remove an author or change the order of authors after submission must be submitted to the editorial team with a clear explanation. The request must include written agreement from all listed authors and any individuals proposed to be added or removed.

The journal may suspend editorial processing while the request is assessed. If an authorship dispute cannot be resolved by mutual agreement, the journal may refer the matter to the relevant institution or authorized body for investigation. The journal will not independently determine disputed factual claims that require institutional investigation.

For manuscripts that have already been published, any proposed authorship correction will be evaluated in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policies and the nature of the concern.

  9. Editorial Assessment and Compliance

The editorial team may request clarification, author contribution statements, or written confirmation of authorship when concerns arise regarding the accuracy of the author list or the legitimacy of individual contributions.

Failure to comply with this policy may result in a request for clarification, correction of authorship information, suspension of the editorial process, rejection of the manuscript, or other appropriate action in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policies. If concerns arise after publication, the journal may consider a correction or other post-publication action, depending on the findings of the assessment.

By submitting a manuscript to Jurnal Ilmu Manajemen dan Pendidikan, the corresponding author confirms that all listed authors have been informed of the submission, meet the journal's authorship criteria, agree to the author order, and accept responsibility for the integrity of the work.
